ANI, Washington. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a stern warning to Iran during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday (local time) and emphasized President Donald Trump's firm military stance. The US is increasing the deployment of warships and air assets in the Middle East in a display of its power amid rising tensions over Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

Underscoring the seriousness of the threat posed by Iran, Hegseth cautioned Tehran against developing nuclear weapons and said "they should not attempt to acquire a nuclear capability, and we will stand ready to take whatever action the President requires of the War Department."

His comments were part of broader statements highlighting US military readiness and deterrence capabilities in the region. To showcase US military capability, the defense chief cited the recent arrest of former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and described the operation as unprecedented in scale and execution.

Hegseth said that no army in the world could have carried out such a sophisticated and powerful raid, not only in American history, but I would say in world history. He added that this accomplishment is a testament to the unparalleled power given to U.S. forces under the current administration: "No other president would have set out to empower those warfighters in this way."

Hegseth said the purpose of such high-level operations is to send a clear message of American resolve globally. He said it sends a message to every capital around the world that when President Trump speaks, he is serious." He also said the War Department is "reestablishing deterrence" after years of perceived strategic ambiguity.
