India's UPI will be accepted internationally

Digital Desk, New Delhi. Union Financial Services Secretary M. Nagaraju said on Friday that India is in talks with eight countries to make its digital payments platform UPI internationally acceptable. Currently, India's popular payment system UPI has been accepted in eight countries.

These include Bhutan, Singapore, Qatar, Mauritius, Nepal, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sri Lanka and France. With this, Indian tourists can use UPI for transactions abroad.

Addressing a conference here, Nagaraju said, 'We are now in talks with about seven-eight countries, which include many countries in East Asia, to make UPI transactions possible.' He said that India is also including UPI during trade negotiations with some countries.

Efforts to include UPI in trade talks

Nagaraju said, 'We are trying to include an aspect of UPI in the trade negotiations that we are pursuing with some countries, so that the financial-technology industry, which is deeply involved in this sector, can also play a role in it.' He said that India has an advantage in terms of cost and scale and wants to use this advantage in the interest of the country.
