Jagran correspondent, Muzaffarpur. During the overflowing of drains of the city, plastic and thermocol made materials are coming out on a large scale. After a week or two of blowing, the drains again get clogged with plastic waste and the flow is obstructed.

Dirty water from the drain starts flowing on the road, people have to face hellish conditions. This is the situation when the government has banned the purchase, sale and use of single-use plastic and thermocol.

Dr. Deepak Kumar says that even after three years of the ban, single use plastic is being sold openly. From wedding banquets to hotels, restaurants and roadside shops, items made of banned plastic and thermocol are being used. The people who are responsible for stopping this have become indifferent. Said that if Muzaffarpur has to shine then the ban on single use plastic will have to be strictly implemented.

There was a ban on the purchase, sale and use of single use plastic on July 1, 2022.

On July 1, 2022, the government had banned the purchase, sale and use of single-use plastic and thermocol manufactured goods. The responsibility of taking action against those who violate this was given to the Municipal Corporation, District and Police Administration, but those to whom this responsibility was entrusted are indifferent.

After the ban came into force, the Municipal Corporation had formed a City Squad team under the leadership of the Municipal Manager. The team ran a campaign for two months and collected Rs 3 lakh as fine and seized 50 kg plastic material, but the team was never seen taking any action. Now it is just on paper.

At the same time, as far as the district and police administration is concerned, once in three years, on August 3, 2022, two dozen teams were formed and a raid was conducted in the entire city, but that too proved to be a mere fudge.

After this the district and police administration did not take any action. Talking about the corporation's campaign, it also raided small shops only and seized single use plastic items. Ignored functions in hotels, restaurants and wedding halls.

What kind of restriction is this, everything is being sold openly

Bhagwanpur resident Alok Kumar said what kind of ban is this, everything is being sold openly. Single use plastic is being used. The reasons for which it was banned still remain in place. If Muzaffarpur has to be truly shined then this ban will have to be strictly enforced.

From spoons to plates made from these are being used openly in weddings and other festivals. They are being used extensively in hotels, restaurants and roadside shops. From vegetable to ration shopkeepers, they are selling it, but there is no one to stop or interfere with them. This is obstructing the flow of drains and causing harm to the environment.
