Jagran correspondent, Varanasi. Electricity consumers are going to get big relief in the new year. Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) released the new Cast Data Book-2025, under which the prices of smart prepaid meters have been drastically reduced.
Now getting a new electricity connection has become easier and more affordable than ever. According to the new rates, the cost of single phase smart prepaid meter has come down to just Rs 2800 from Rs 6016 earlier, while the cost of three phase meter has come down from Rs 11342 to Rs 4100.
This reduction is a big relief for consumers, because it will reduce the cost of new connection by more than half. The Commission has implemented fixed charge system for new connections, thereby eliminating the complex process of making old estimates. Now one can get direct connection by paying fixed fee based on distance, load and other parameters.
This will free consumers from unnecessary hassles and make the process transparent. Big discounts have been given especially to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and poor consumers. They have been waived off processing fees and security deposits. Besides, the facility to make payment in installments will also be available.

Additionally, the cost of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) will not be passed on to consumers as it is covered under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). After September 9, 2025, consumers taking new connections at old rates will also get the benefit. The Commission has instructed the power companies to update the software and implement the new rates by January 12, 2026.
The work will be done according to the plan being made by the department. To avail the benefits, you can contact UPPCL website, app and office after January 12.
