Santosh Kumar Singh, New Delhi. To provide better health facilities in Delhi, Delhi government has received Rs 1749 crore under the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) scheme.
With this, 1139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, 11 Integrated Public Health Laboratories and critical care blocks are to be constructed in nine hospitals. According to the rules, there was a condition to spend this amount by 31st March.
Due to this, there was a danger of withdrawal of funds, but now the Delhi government has got relief. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that additional time of one year has been given from the Central Government. This is an example of the benefits of the triple engine government.
To prepare hospitals for the challenges of epidemics like Corona, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the PM-A BHIM scheme in the year 2021-22. Under this, the central government provides funds for the development of infrastructure in the health sector.
The Chief Minister said that the previous Aam Aadmi Party government did not take advantage of this. That government had gone to the Supreme Court demanding that it not be implemented in Delhi. This scheme was implemented in Delhi within 50 days of the formation of the BJP government.
For its implementation, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had entered into an agreement with the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Delhi Government in April last year.
He said that this scheme is going to run from the year 2021-22 to 2025-26. In Delhi, it came into effect from April last year, hence the Delhi government was challenged to complete the work of five years in one year. So far 370 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been started using this fund.
Work on others is going on and some more Arogya Mandirs will start soon. In the interest of the people of Delhi, an appeal was made to the Central Government to extend the duration of the scheme, which has been accepted and the duration has been extended by one year. This will help in strengthening the infrastructure in the health sector by utilizing the funds properly.
The Chief Minister said that due to the failure of the previous government, health services in Delhi had fallen into disrepair. Mohalla clinics were opened in porta cabins near drains, which did not have proper facilities. Now in the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs being started, 12 health services including examination, consultation and treatment will be available to the patients. Providing treatment near home will reduce the burden on big hospitals.
