First day of budget session full of political messages

Digital Desk, Patna. Bihar vidhan sabha budget session 2026: The budget session of Bihar Assembly started with the address of Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. In his address of about 30 minutes, he enumerated the achievements of the government. As soon as law and order was mentioned, the Governor was seen smiling and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav present in the House also laughed. This moment was especially discussed on the first day of the session.

CM asked about his well being, Tejashwi replied with gestures

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav reached the House on a wheel chair after toe operation. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asked him about his well being. Tejashwi said “I am fine” with hand gesture. This human dialogue amidst political differences seemed to give a different message in the House.

Development and law claims

The Governor said that now there is rule of law in Bihar and after 2005, work has been done rapidly in every sector. Referring to health, education, women empowerment and expansion of roads, he also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the support of the Central Government.

Opposition raised the issue of NEET student

Before the proceedings began, the opposition demonstrated over the NEET student rape-death case. Congress MLA Kamrul Hoda was seen in the assembly premises carrying the poster. Even within the House, opposition MLAs raised the demand for justice, on which the Governor paused for a few moments and then continued his address.

War of words between ruling party and opposition

RJD MLA Bhai Virendra accused the government of playing politics and demanded hanging of the culprits. Deputy CM Vijay Sinha replied that the case has been handed over to CBI and the accused will not be spared. Meanwhile, BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi said that the opposition no longer has any concrete issue left.

AIMIM MLA Akhtarul Iman stood up and started protesting against the Governor's statement on development of both Hindu and Muslim communities. The Governor gestured and asked them to sit. There was slight tension in the House for some time.

Finance Minister Bijendra Yadav presented the economic survey. Now Bihar's budget will come on 3rd February. There will be a total of 19 meetings in the session which will run till February 27. On the very first day, the session made it clear that in the coming days, there will be intense political conflict in the House on development, law and order and NEET student case.
