ANI, Tel Aviv. About a dozen F-22 fighter planes of the US Air Force have landed in Israel. The incident comes amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, which could potentially escalate into war.
The Times of Israel, citing flight tracking data and plane spotters, reported that stealth fighter planes were seen taking off from Lakenheath Airport in Britain on the morning of February 24, after which they headed for Israel.
A US official said the fifth-generation aircraft had landed at an Air Force air base in southern Israel. According to ABC, the fighter planes took off with their transponders deactivated, but they were accompanied by refueling tankers whose transponders were on.
Talks are continuing between the US and Iran over Tehran's nuclear program and the two sides will meet for a third round of talks in Geneva on Thursday.
Israeli officials believe the attack by the US is unwarranted and there have been contacts between top military officials of the two countries. One official said a diplomatic resolution to the conflict would be the biggest surprise of the year.
