Divisional level mental health committee constituted in Jammu and Kashmir under NEP-2020.
Jagran correspondent, Jammu. In view of the increasing stress, anxiety, depression, drug addiction and psychological challenges among students in recent years, the Education Department has taken an important decision.
In line with the objectives of the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020), to strengthen the overall development, emotional balance and mental health of students and teachers, a Divisional Level Mental Health Committee has been constituted under the Directorate of School Education, Jammu, which will help in keeping the children as well as their teachers away from stress.

Joint Director Gurudev Kumar has been made the chairman of this committee formed by the Directorate of Education, Jammu. Chief Education Officer Jammu Ajit Sharma and Chief Education Officer Ramban Mohammad Sultan Khan have been included as members in the committee. Meanwhile, DIET HOD Romesh Kumar has been named member secretary.
The main objective of the committee is to promote life skills, counseling services, stress management and emotional well-being in schools. Under this, policy, guidelines and standard operating procedure (SOP) will be prepared. An outline will also be made to include life skills education and mental health related activities in the school time-table. This committee will organize training programs for teachers, principals, headmasters and zonal education officers so that they can do early identification of mental health problems.
Counselors will also be given special training
Besides, indicators and mechanisms will be developed to identify the risks related to stress, anxiety, depression and drug addiction among students. Apart from this, counselors will also be prepared at school and cluster level, who will identify stress among children and teachers and provide advice to them. These counselors will also be given special training.
At the same time, awareness programs for parents and de-addiction campaigns will also be conducted with the help of concerned departments. The committee will monitor the implementation of these guidelines in all the schools of Jammu division and advise the directorate on issues related to mental health.
