Sanjeev Tomar, Modipuram. For the last several days, the continuously increasing dense fog in the cold weather has put brakes on the speed of Delhi-Doon Highway. Now vehicles used to run at a speed of 80 km per hour on Doon Highway, now the same vehicles will be able to run at a speed of 50 km per hour only. For this, NHAI has installed speed signs of 50 on the U-turn of Doon Highway in Meerut-Muzaffarnagar border.
Brijesh Singh, Senior Maintenance Manager of Sivaya Toll Plaza Company, said that when the Delhi-Dehradun Highway was constructed, its drawing had fixed the speed of 100 km per hour. After a few years, when the traffic load started increasing on Doon Highway, the speed was reduced from 100 to 80 km per hour.
But, within a few years, colonies, marriage halls, hotels, restaurants and dhabas started opening along the Doon Highway. Due to which the number of road accidents on Doon Highway increased. Dozens of pedestrians have lost their lives in road accidents so far. As the year 2025 was coming to an end, there was a sudden increase in thunder, due to which fog covered the roads during the day and night.
For the last several days, as soon as the evening approaches, dense fog engulfs the roads and vehicles. Keeping this in mind, on the instructions of NHAI, Sivaya Toll Plaza Company has installed 50 speed sign boards on the U-turn in the border of Meerut-Muzaffarnagar district. Besides, at Siwaya toll plaza also, announcement is being made through mike to drive at a speed of 50 km per hour only. So that the speeding vehicle does not become victim of any accident.
