Jagran correspondent, West Delhi. To maintain law and order during the New Year celebrations, West Delhi District Police launched an intensive search and surveillance operation on the night of 31 December. During this action, the police detained a total of 1146 people for creating ruckus and violating rules, while 93 vehicles were seized on charges of careless driving.

DCP D Sharad Bhaskar said that to strengthen the security arrangements, a total of 1,469 police personnel including 2 companies of external force were deployed at every nook and corner in the district. According to the data released by the police, strict legal action was taken against those who broke the rules on the night of 31 December.

In this, 179 people were arrested under the Indian Judicial Code and 253 people were arrested under the Delhi Excise Act. At the same time, 714 people were detained under 65 DP Act on charges of disturbing public peace.

The police maintained strict vigil through Machan Morcha and motorcycle patrolling in sensitive areas like Rajouri Garden, Punjabi Bagh and Janakpuri to ensure that no untoward incident took place in pubs, hotels and markets. This strictness of the police had started even before the night of celebration.

Earlier, during the clean-up operation conducted on December 29 and 30, 697 people were arrested under BNSS, while 1,252 people were booked under 65 Delhi Police Acts. Also, in these two days, 146 vehicles were impounded under 66 DP Act.

This preventive action played an important role in maintaining peace and order during the main celebrations of New Year. All the senior officers themselves stayed in the field and ensured that the rules of noise pollution and time limit were followed.

On the other hand, after 12 noon on 31st December, the DCP and other officers of the district came to meet the personnel on duty and congratulated them for the New Year by giving them sweets.
