Supreme Court will hear the petition of UAE businessman in terrorist funding case

PTI, New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear the bail plea of a United Arab Emirates (UAE) businessman against whom a case was registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) over alleged terror funding in the Kashmir Valley.

The bench of Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice NV Anjaria has issued a notice to the NIA on the petition of Naval Kishore Kapoor and sought its reply.

Senior advocate Shadan Farasat, appearing for the petitioner, said that Naval Kishore Kapoor has been in custody for more than seven years and the allegation of terrorist funding has also not been proved.

He argued that according to the prosecution, Kapoor had given some money to Zahoor Ahmed Shah Watali to promote separatist and terrorist activities in the Valley, but that money was used to repay loans from banks.

Kapoor has challenged the Delhi High Court's order rejecting his petition last year in the apex court.
