State Bureau, Patna. In a major action, the Special Surveillance Unit (SVU) on Thursday arrested an assistant director Ravi Shankar Ram and engineering specialist (soil conservation) Anjani Kumar from Bhabua (Kaimur) with a bribe of Rs 20 thousand. This action was taken on the basis of written complaint given by Umesh Kumar and Arvind Kumar.

According to the complaint, Umesh Kumar and Arvind Kumar had applied for payment of the outstanding work done under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana. In lieu of releasing this amount, a bribe of about Rs 30,000 was demanded for Assistant Director Ravi Shankar Ram through engineering expert Anjani Kumar.

During verification it emerged that Rs 10,000 had already been taken by Anjani Kumar, while the remaining Rs 20,000 was being continuously demanded. A threat was also given to stop the outstanding payment in case the bribe was not paid.

After finding the complaint to be true, the Special Surveillance Unit laid a trap and arrested both the accused while taking a bribe of Rs 20,000. In this case, a case has been registered against both of them under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further legal action is underway by the Special Monitoring Unit. The arrested accused will be produced in the Surveillance Court, Patna on Friday.
