Family slept with fireplace in room, three died
Jagran correspondent, Amritsar. A tragic incident in Alipur village (Vidhan Sabha Halka Patti) of Tarn Taran has shocked the entire area. Here, a couple and their two-month-old child died due to suffocation due to burning of the fireplace in their room.
What is the whole matter?
According to the information, Gursahib Singh's son Arshdeep Singh had kept burning charcoal in an iron tin to protect himself from the cold. During this, carbon monoxide (poisonous gas) was produced. As a result, 21-year-old Arshdeep Singh, 20-year-old wife Jashandeep Kaur and two-month-old innocent son Gurbaz Singh died of suffocation. Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh's brother-in-law Kishan Singh became unconscious.
The joy of grandson's birth turned into mourning
Gursahib Singh, father of deceased Arshdeep, told that his grandson Gurbaz Singh was born in his house only two months ago. The Dhaman ceremony was organized 20 days in advance to mark the birth of the grandson. After this, preparations were going on in the family for the ceremony of distributing Lohri to the grandson.
Arshdeep's nine-year-old brother-in-law Kishan Singh had come to his place on Friday evening. On Saturday evening, Gursahib Singh returned home after working as a laborer with his son Arshdeep Singh. It was very cold so Arshdeep put coal in an iron tin and lit the fire. The whole family was talking about Lohri celebrations while warming their hands.
The family refused to take legal action
The room where Gurbaz was born. Flowers etc. were kept for its decoration, so that the festival could be celebrated on Tuesday morning. Gursahib went into the room at 9.30 pm. While son Arshdeep slept in the room along with the family. Before sleeping, he placed the fireplace inside the room and locked the door.
Kishan Singh was lying in an unconscious state on Sunday morning. While Arshdeep Singh, Jashandeep Kaur and the milk-faced child were lying dead. On receiving information about the incident, Harike Pattan police station in-charge Balbir Singh reached the spot. Gursahib refused to take legal action.
Local leaders expressed grief over the incident
Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, former Minister Adesh Pratap Singh Kairon, former Patti MLA Harminder Singh Gill, Youth Congress leader Harman Sekhon, Chairman Ranjit Singh Cheema, Dilbagh Singh and Nachhatar Singh Radia, who reached the spot, expressed sympathy with the family and expressed their condolences.
