Jagran correspondent, Almora. Criminal incidents are increasing rapidly in Devbhoomi. Along with murder, cases of rape are continuously coming to light. The uproar over the incident of rape of a minor in Bhawali on February 5 had not subsided when on Friday Sohail, a polytechnic student resident of the village of Bhagatpur area of Moradabad in Almora, raped a 16-year-old girl.
In this case, the police have registered an FIR and arrested the accused youth. There is anger in the area due to the incident and the villagers have warned of demonstration. The incident took place in a village of Dhauladevi block. According to relatives, he had gone to Haldwani for the treatment of a family member's illness. Meanwhile, the accused youth took the opportunity to molest the minor daughter and entered the house at night and raped her.
It is alleged that the accused had recorded objectionable photographs of the girl on his mobile and used to intimidate her by threatening to broadcast them. The accused raped her several times and threatened to kill her if she told anyone. On getting the information the relative lodged a complaint with the police.
The police arrested the accused, 20-year-old Sohail, resident of village Budhanpur, Bhagatpur, Moradabad, from near Chapar Band within 12 hours. Danyan police station in-charge Dinesh Nath Mahant said that a case has been registered under sections of BNS including POCSO. Medical examination of the girl has been done and electronic evidence is also being examined.
Accused student studies while living in a rented house
The accused Sohail is a student of sixth semester of Electrical Trade of Polytechnic College, Danyan. He used to study while living in a rented house in the village near Danyan. At the same time, organizations have expressed anger over this incident. Mahamandaleshwar Lal Baba of Chitragupta Peeth of Jageshwar Dham has submitted a memorandum to Police Station Head Danyan. He has expressed deep displeasure over the occupation of temples and religious places including Love Jihad, Spit Jihad, Land Jihad taking place in Uttarakhand. An protest rally will be taken out in Danyan area on 14th February.
This matter is very sensitive. The accused was immediately arrested. Police have been directed to maintain peace and security in the area. All kinds of activities are being monitored.
