This last plea of Vikas Rana, who was missing from Bharmour area, reached Akshay, a young man from the same village, but the cruelty of nature caught hold of time before him. Vikas told in the first call, I am currently trying to reach Goth of Daffar. Piyush's condition has become very bad, I am coming down with him. The conversation remained incomplete and the call got disconnected. After some time the phone rang again. This time, nervousness, fatigue and fear were clear in his voice. Vikas said, brother, we are very badly trapped. Piyush's condition has worsened. I am carrying him on my back. Please… save us.
Could not send location
Akshay immediately sent his location to Vikas, but the severe cold had become the biggest enemy here. Vikas's iPhone was not working properly due to extreme cold and bad weather. He replied, Brother, my fingers are not working, how can I send the location? The fingers becoming numb from the cold and the falling temperature were making the situation more dangerous every minute. After a few moments the phone got disconnected again and after that contact could never be made.
Both found dead after four days of tough challenge
After this there was a stir in the village. Local people, administration and relief teams swung into action. For four days, a massive search operation was carried out in the inaccessible hills of Bharmani Mata Temple with the help of drones, NDRF, police, forest department, local people and army helicopters. Heavy snowfall, extreme cold and slippery roads remained a major challenge for the expedition. Four days later, the bodies of Vikas Rana and Piyush were recovered. With that news, the hope of the village was shattered and mourning spread.
Mother's support was only developed
Vikas had left studies after +2. He had a deep passion for video making and blogging. The desire to do something different took him to risky paths. The family was already in conflict. Father had passed away last year. Mother Anita Kumari supports the family by selling milk. There is a sister who is married. Vikas was the biggest hope of the house.
The condition of Piyush's family is not good.
The mental condition of 13 year old Piyush's father, resident of Ghared village of Bharmour, is not good. Even on the day of the accident, his mother and father had gone to the hospital in Noorpur. Piyush has two brothers and three sisters. Elder brother Ganesh is the only support of the family, who is working as a daily wage laborer after 12th.
The call for help was lost in the snow.
This accident is not just the story of the death of two boys, but the tragedy of those last minutes, when help was just a distance away and the cry of 'Brother, save us' was lost somewhere in the snow.
