Jagran correspondent, Gorakhpur. Codeine mixed cough syrup and painkiller Tramadol have been sold in large quantities on the licenses of closed drug shops. The Drug Administration Department, which is investigating the purchase and sale of Codeine and Tramadol, has found records of two such shops which have been closed for a long time. Of these, one shop is in Gorakhpur and the other in Kushinagar. Codeine syrup and Tramadol tablets have also been sent to the Kushinagar shop from Varanasi and Jaunpur. The operators of both are residents of Gopalganj, Bihar. License for sale of wholesale medicines in the name of NA Pharma has been taken in Ghosipur of Tiwaripur police station area. This shop has been closed for a long time. Investigation revealed that more than eight thousand bottles of codeine mixed syrup were purchased from NA Pharma in a year. Eight thousand tablets of Tramadol have also been purchased from the shop.
When the investigation progressed, it was found that 800 bottles of codeine were sold at this shop to NK Pharma of Kushinagar. NK Pharma has also purchased codeine syrup from wholesalers in Varanasi and Jaunpur. Both the shops are closed and the landlords also have no information about the operators. The drug department team that went to Kushinagar for investigation has returned.
Assistant Commissioner Medicine Puranchand said that both the shopkeepers were running the business from Gopalganj in Bihar. This is a serious matter. Evidence of collusion between the two has been found. Notice has been sent to him through WhatsApp and email.
