Jagran correspondent, Jalandhar. An incident of mobile snatching was foiled by the bravery of an auto driver late on Tuesday night in Basti Bawa sports area of Jalandhar. Three youths riding an Activa snatched the mobile phone from a woman standing with children near Basti Bawa Khel Canal, but the auto driver present on the spot showed courage and chased the snatchers and got one of the accused arrested. According to the information received, Neetu, a resident of Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Nagar, was going towards the fish market late at night for some work. She was standing with her children near Basti Bawa Khel Canal, when three youths riding on Activa reached there from behind. One of the youths snatched the mobile phone from Neetu's hand and all three started running away from the spot. When Neetu raised an alarm, auto driver Nihang Singh, who was passing by, saw the entire incident.

Started chasing the snatchers
Nihang Singh chased the snatchers without any delay and hit their Activa with his auto. As soon as the collision occurred, all three youths riding the Activa fell on the road. Seeing the crowd gathering, two youths fled from the spot, while one youth was caught by the people. Angry people thrashed the caught youth and immediately informed the police.

Police reached the spot and caught the accused
On receiving the information, Inspector Jai Inder Singh, in-charge of Basti Bawa Khel police station, reached the spot with the police team and took the accused under his custody and took him to the police station. The arrested accused has been identified as Manish Kumar alias Mani, resident of village Hamira, Subhanpur. The police have also recovered the mobile phone that was snatched from the possession of the accused. The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections. The station in-charge said that raids are being conducted to identify and arrest the two absconding accused. The accused is also being interrogated about his associates and earlier snatching incidents. Police say that soon the absconding accused will also be arrested.
