The worst is over, Indigo restarted 2200 flights- CEO

Digital Desk, New Delhi. IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers said on Thursday that the airline has emerged even stronger after a challenging period. "The worst is over" after ground operations stabilized and the airline restored a network of 2,200 flights, it said.

Praising staff across all departments for remaining united during the recent disruptions, he said the airline's focus now is on three things - resilience, root cause analysis and rebuilding. His statement comes after millions of passengers faced inconvenience and hassle at airports as a result of thousands of flights being canceled earlier this month.

Video message sent by employees

In an internal video message sent to employees, Albers said IndiGo's focus is now on rebuilding the airline after operations have stabilised, and the airline's board has appointed an external aviation expert to conduct a comprehensive root cause analysis.

He said, “On December 9, I had shared the information about stability in IndiGo's operations. After that, today (Thursday) we have restored our network of 2,200 flights. Now we are focusing on three things – resilience, root cause analysis and rebuilding the airline. Recovering from such a situation in such a short time is a testament to our teamwork and the strength of our operating principles.”

Why were the flights cancelled?

It is noteworthy that due to lack of proper planning and inadequate availability of staff in implementing the new rules related to duty period and rest of pilots, Indigo had canceled thousands of flights between December 1 and 9.

These rules came into effect from November 1. DGCA committee is probing operational disruptions at IndiGo. Additionally, the government has cut IndiGo's existing winter schedule by 10 per cent after massive flight cancellations earlier this month.
