These Historical Heritages Of UP Will Get New Identity, ASI Approves Conservation And Repair Works

Jagran correspondent, Chitrakoot. A major step has been taken towards preserving the historical and mythological heritage of Tapobhoomi and giving them a new identity. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has approved the conservation and repair works of ancient monuments falling under Ganesh Bagh Karvi subdivision. These works will not only conserve the heritage, but will also give a new dimension to the area from religious and tourism point of view.

Archaeological Survey of India Jhansi Division has approved four important proposals for the conservation and care of historical monuments. Senior Conservator Assistant Tarak Singh said that notification has been issued regarding all the works and all these monuments are national heritage, whose conservation is the primary responsibility of the department.

Conservation and repair work will be done on two big caves and a small flat roofed temple known as Rikhain (Rishiyan) located in village Barha Kotra under Mau tehsil. This includes conservation of the small temples located on the platform outside the Rikhan Cave, repair of the platform and construction of stairs in accordance with the original architecture of the temple.

The work of conservation of the remains of the famous 10th century Bhar Deol (Shiva) temple situated in this village has been approved. Under this work, the walls of the sanctum sanctorum will be conserved and repaired with ashlar stone and stones associated with the architecture of the temple will be used.

It is noteworthy that in the first phase, conservation work of up to ten layers of stone on the platform and surrounding areas of the temple has already been completed. Under the third proposal, the complex of two Chandela era temples located on the same site in village Gonda of Tehsil Karvi will be developed.

In this, iron grills will be installed, boundary walls will be raised, temples will be protected and stairs will be constructed for the convenience of the devotees. Apart from this, the work of construction of toilet has also been approved for the convenience of devotees and tourists in the Peshwa era Prastar temple complex located at Ganesh Bagh Karvi, the construction work of which has started.

These conservation works are expected to preserve the historical and mythological heritage of Chitrakoot as well as give a new direction to tourism and local development.
