Digital Desk, New Delhi. Even on the morning of 31st December, the last day of the year, Delhi-NCR did not get respite from the poisonous air. The average air quality index (AQI) of the capital was recorded at 384 at 7 am on Wednesday, which is in the very poor category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), AQI was recorded between 350 to 450 in most areas of Delhi.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert regarding moderate to dense fog on December 31. According to the department, on January 1, there may be light rain or drizzle at many places in the plains including the capital, due to which there is a possibility of drop in temperature and impact on visibility.

The arrival of New Year in the capital is also going to be amidst the double blow of pollution and fog. There is definitely hope of relief from light rain, but at present the air of Delhi is taking a toll on people's health.
