The effect of dense fog is being seen continuously for the last four days in Jamalpur-Kiul railway section and surrounding areas. Due to low visibility, there is huge hindrance in the operation of trains. Many major trains are running late by hours, while some trains have even had to be cancelled. Due to this, passengers are facing a lot of problems.
Passengers were seen worried at Jamalpur station on Monday. Sairang Rajdhani Express coming from New Delhi reached the station late by more than 12 hours from its scheduled time. Brahmaputra Mail was delayed by about five hours, Farakka Express by four hours and Anand Vihar-Malda Express also arrived late by several hours. Due to continuous delays, the platform was crowded with passengers and people kept waiting for their trains for hours.
Due to late arrival of trains, many passengers were forced to resort to private buses and other alternative means of transport. There was a crowd of passengers at the inquiry counter of the station and people were seen repeatedly getting information about the status of their trains.
Passengers Rajesh Kumar, Pintu Kumar, Gudiya Kumari, Vivek Kumar, Gopal Prasad and Kalpana Devi said that due to fog, the timing of trains has been completely spoiled. Fog is also likely to increase in the coming days, which may make travel more difficult.
Railway administration is advising passengers to get information about the status of the train before travelling. The administration says that trains are being operated keeping safety paramount.
Block is being taken regarding safety and speed
These days, in order to maintain safety and speed on Jamalpur-Kiul railway section, a block of three to four hours is being taken at night. Traffic Inspector Dilip Kumar said that special monitoring of rail points and tracks is necessary during cold weather. For this reason, night blocks are being taken regularly for the last one month, so that safe and smooth railway operations can be ensured.
