Jagran correspondent, Chitrakoot. On Tuesday, the police arrested broker Ajay Singh Yadav, resident of Atarsui, Rajapur, from his house in connection with a scam of Rs 43.13 crore in the treasury. It is alleged that Ajay and his brother Ajit Singh Yadav have made irregular payments of Rs 3 to 4 crore in the accounts of more than half a dozen pensioners. Both of them have made online transactions worth about Rs 50 lakh as a share from pensioners in their bank accounts.
On the other hand, the SIT on Tuesday interrogated former senior treasury officer Shailesh Kumar along with in-charge ATO Rajbahadur and counter assistant Yogendra Singh. All three were made to sit face to face and interrogated on points like files of deceased pensioners and change of bank account numbers etc. Shailesh Kumar is currently working on the post of Chief Treasurer in Bareilly.
SIT in-charge CO City Arvind Kumar Verma said that the names of broker Ajay Singh Yadav and his brother Ajit Singh Yadav had come up in the treasury scam. Under the leadership of CO Rajapur Rajkamal, Inspector-in-charge Lakhan Singh and Hill Police Station Head Praveen Singh raided the residence and arrested Ajay while he was running away in Bolero, while Ajit escaped.
Bolero has been seized as no papers were found. Soon other middlemen and brokers will also be caught. Including Ajay, 33 accused have been sent to jail so far, which include two treasury employees, 24 pensioners and seven middlemen and brokers. On Tuesday, Shailesh Kumar also reached Chitrakoot from Bareilly. There was embezzlement of about Rs 10-15 crore during his tenure.
During this period, fake payment orders were issued in the accounts of 93 pensioners. The investigating officers questioned him for about three hours on re-opening of files of deceased pensioners, changing of account numbers and other irregularities. During this period, many important facts were collected, which are likely to help in the investigation.
However, during interrogation, all three officers kept blaming each other and declared themselves innocent. Accountant Computer Rajesh Bharti could not attend due to family reasons. SIT has already interrogated current senior treasury officer Ramesh Singh and former senior treasury officer Kamlesh Kumar.
