Uttarakhand Bar Council Elections: Advocates Of Dehradun Showed Enthusiasm, Record 76 Percent Voting

Jagran, correspondent, Dehradun. Record votes were read from the district court on Tuesday for the elections of Bar Council of Uttarakhand. Out of 5007 members of the Bar, 3818 advocates exercised their franchise.

At around 5 pm, the fate of 104 candidates was sealed in the ballot box. Ballot boxes from the districts will be transported to the main election center by February 19, where counting of votes will take place from February 20.

There was a lot of enthusiasm among the voters in the district court since morning. What was also special was that for the first time, voting arrangements were made in the new building of the court, where about 40 booths were made for the convenience of the voters.

When a large number of advocates arrived to vote, long queues were seen, however, the voting was conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner. Voting took place till 5 pm.

The voting process was completed under the chairmanship of First Additional District Judge Mahesh Chandra Kaushiva. On his instructions, there was a ban on movement of vehicles in the court premises.

Voters were sent to different booths on the basis of their serial numbers, thereby maintaining transparency and accessibility. Outgoing President of Doon Bar Association, Manmohan Kandwal said that this time historic votes have been cast. For the first time during his tenure, he saw such enthusiasm towards voting among the advocates.
