State Bureau, Dehradun. Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan said that it is the need of the hour to move Uttarakhand towards scientific approach and innovation based development model. Work should be done seriously in this direction. He directed that organized guidance programs should be conducted to increase interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects among students and youth. The General Assembly meeting of Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology (UCAST) was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. The Chief Secretary also gave instructions to promote science dialogue, audio program, science magazine and structured guidance system at the school level. He also stressed on formulation of standard operating procedures for effective guidance of students by scientific institutions. Appreciating the positive results of the Lab on Wheels program operated in 13 districts, the Chief Secretary gave instructions for its development and expansion, especially in the hilly areas. He directed to take steps towards setting up Manaskhand Science Center of Almora, Champawat Science Center and innovation centers in every district. In the meeting, Director General of the Council Durgesh Pant presented the achievements and future plans of the Council. It was told that science is being propagated through programs like Vigyan Vani, Vigyan Drishyam and Vigyan Dhara on 88.8 MHz. Many experts including Prof. KK Pant, Director of Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Harendra Singh Bisht, Director of Indian Institute of Petroleum and Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Vice Chancellor of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology were present in the meeting.
