Road accidents will be controlled in India.

Auto Desk, New Delhi. Road accidents have become a big problem in India. Every year lakhs of people get injured in road accidents. Thousands of people lose their lives every year in these accidents. To deal with this serious challenge, the government is preparing to introduce a new and modern technology. This system is called Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V). Through this technology, vehicles will be able to communicate with each other. Along with this, this technology will work to alert the driver before an accident.

What is V2V system?

V2V i.e. Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication is one such advanced technology. With this, vehicles moving on the road share information with each other through wireless signals. Under this system, a small on-board unit (OBU) will be installed in every vehicle. It will continuously exchange data with vehicles running nearby.

This system will work to transmit information like speed, location, direction, brake status and acceleration of the vehicle to other nearby vehicles. If there is any danger ahead, such as sudden braking, accident ahead, fog or blind spot, the driver will get an instant alert.

How will this technology work?

The V2V system will work entirely on radio signals. There will be no need of internet or mobile network for this, due to which this system will be able to work effectively even in remote areas.

You can also face this in this way, a vehicle moving ahead on the highway suddenly applies brakes or a vehicle is parked on the roadside. In such a situation, the vehicle coming from behind will already get a warning on the dashboard or display. This will give the driver a chance to react in time and the chances of a collision will be significantly reduced.

This technology can prove to be especially helpful in preventing rear-end crashes, blind spot accidents, accidents occurring in fog or low visibility.

Possibility of reduction in accidents by 80 percent

According to government data, in the year 2023, there were about 4.80 lakh road accidents in India, in which 1.73 lakh people died. A large number of them were youth. Regarding V2V technology, it is expected that with its implementation, road accidents can be reduced by 80 percent. The biggest feature of this system is that it informs the driver about the danger in advance, which increases the reaction time and the accident can be averted.

What is the government's goal by 2030?

The government has set a target to reduce deaths in road accidents by 50 percent by 2030. V2V technology is an important part of this big road safety mission. For this, the central government is planning to spend about Rs 5000 crore on this project.

The estimated price of a V2V device can be Rs 5000 to Rs 7000. Initially this system will be implemented in new vehicles and later it will be extended to other vehicles in a phased manner.

V2V system may become necessary by 2026

The government plans to have V2V systems officially included in the technical standards by the end of 2026. After this, this system can be made mandatory in new vehicles, so that road safety can be strengthened from the beginning.

Retrofitting option can also be given for old vehicles, so that existing vehicles can also take advantage of this technology. Its standards are being set in collaboration with vehicle manufacturing companies, so that all vehicles can communicate in a uniform and safe manner.

More advanced than ADAS

V2V तकनीक मौजूदा ADAS (एडवांस्ड ड्राइवर असिस्टेंस सिस्टम) को और ज्यादा मजबूत बनाएगी। While ADAS relies only on cameras and sensors, V2V systems establish direct communication between vehicles. This allows the danger to be identified much earlier.
