Baba Vaidyanath Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas.
Baba Vaidyanath Dham is situated in the heart of Jharkhand. This holy place is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It shows the stunning form of Lord Shiva and is the center of faith for Hindus.
Baba Vaidyanath Dham is also considered to be one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, which are places associated with the divine power of Goddess Sati. This unique confluence of Shiva and Shakti makes Baba Baidyanath Dham a pilgrimage site of unmatched importance.
Recognition of Mata Sati's heart falling
Shakti Peeth situated at Baba Baidyanath Dham is related to the story of Sati, wife of Lord Shiva. After Sati's self-immolation, Shiva wandered the earth carrying her body in mourning.
Wherever the body parts of Mata Sati fell, a Shakti Peetha appeared. It is believed that Sati's heart had fallen in Deoghar, hence it became the Hridaya Peetha or Hridaya Temple. The Shakti Peetha here is dedicated to Jai Durga, a form of Goddess Parvati.
