Devji's surrender with a reward of Rs 25 lakh
Digital Desk, New Delhi. The central government is rapidly moving towards the target of completely ending Maoist violence across the country by March 31. Another big success has been achieved in this. CPI (Maoist) General Secretary Tippiri Tirupati alias Devji has surrendered before Telangana Police. This is considered to be the biggest blow to the armed rebellion so far.
Who is Tippiri Tirupati alias Devji?
60-year-old Devji, a Maoist general secretary and carrying a reward of Rs 25 lakh in Telangana, has surrendered in Mulugu district. The police have not yet made an official announcement of the surrender, which is expected to be made official in the coming days.
Devji, a resident of Karimnagar district of Telangana state, was made the general secretary about eight months ago after security forces killed former party chief Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju in May 2025. Sources said that along with Devji, 20 armed cadres are also expected to surrender.
What is Operation Kagar?
A campaign is being run to end leftist extremism across the country. The central government is stepping up pressure under Operation Kagar, which Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set a deadline of March 2026 to end the Maoist insurgency across the country. The Special Intelligence Bureau of Telangana Police, which handles anti-Maoist operations, is monitoring the situation.
CPI (Maoist) is struggling with loss of leadership for the last one year. The surrender of senior Politburo member Mallojula Venugopal was initially seen as a turning point. In the last six months, many other big leaders including Ashanna have laid down their arms. Devji's surrender before Telangana Police will make him the biggest Maoist till date.
