Vigilance Bureau's Aggressive Action In Bihar, 113 Trap Cases In 2025; More Than 100 Bribe Takers Arrested

State Bureau, Patna. Under the zero tolerance policy of Bihar government towards corruption, the action of the Surveillance Investigation Bureau in the state is becoming increasingly fast and aggressive. The action taken in the cases of bribery and disproportionate assets during the last one year has clearly indicated that no leniency will be shown to corrupt public servants.

The surveillance conducted a total of 113 trap cases in 2025 alone. In these cases, 92 FIRs were registered and more than 100 bribery officers and employees were arrested red handed. A total bribe amount of more than Rs 35.5 lakh was recovered from all of them.

Following the government's zero tolerance policy

The surveillance is carrying out its action in accordance with the zero tolerance policy of the Bihar government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The government has a clear instruction that corruption will not be tolerated under any circumstances in works related to the general public. Under this policy, the monitoring bureau has not only expedited trap cases but has also taken strict action against serious crimes like acquiring disproportionate assets.

Most corruption in land related matters

According to information received from monitoring sources, most cases of bribery are in the Revenue and Land Reforms Department. Complaints of bribery have been continuously received in matters like measurement of land, registration and rejection, jamabandi improvement and issuance of receipt. Apart from this, such complaints are also common in Police Department, Rural Works Department and Road Construction and Building Construction Department.

13 actions this year in disproportionate assets case

The monitoring bureau has also taken 13 major actions in a year in cases of acquisition of assets beyond income. In which cases amounting to about Rs 12.77 crore were reported. A major case among these is related to an engineer, who had illegally acquired property worth about Rs 2.17 crore. During the raids, cash, land documents, bank accounts and investment related documents were recovered from his premises.

Hearing on 29 corruption cases held in court

This year, punishment was given after hearing 29 corruption cases in the court. Action was taken after conviction in 28 cases. In the last 25 years, maximum action for conviction was taken this year.
