Jagran correspondent, Bathinda. Punjab's high-security Bathinda Central Jail is making headlines again. The warden of this jail has now been caught by the police. Actually this warden used to supply drugs inside the jail. This is the same jail, which is considered to be the high-security reformatory of Punjab and it is here that the interview of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, the accused mastermind of the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, was done.
In the latest case, it is alleged that the warden was supplying narcotics to the prisoners. Taking joint action, the police and jail administration have recovered 27 grams of heroin, 21 grams of opium and 60 banned capsules from the accused warden.
After which a case was registered against the accused jail warden constable Varinder Kumar, resident of village Khorpur, district Fazilka, arrested him and suspended him and started further action against him.

Arrest made from quarter inside jail
It is being told that the accused jail warden has been arrested from the government quarter inside the women's jail. At present, it is not yet known how long he had been supplying drugs inside the jail.
The police are interrogating him by taking him on police remand. Let us tell you that even before this, many jail employees have been arrested on charges of supplying drugs.

Action on receiving complaints of drug supply
According to the information received, complaints of drug smuggling were being received in Bathinda Central Jail for a long time. The administration became alert after unusual behavior of some prisoners and recovery of banned items in the jail premises.
On this, the jail administration along with local police and intelligence agencies started a secret investigation. During the investigation, the needle of suspicion rested on a warden of the jail itself. It is being told that the accused jail warden constable Varinder Kumar was misusing his duty and supplying narcotics inside the jail.

Was earning money by contacting outside smugglers
The accused warden was in contact with outside smugglers and used to supply drugs to the jail prisoners for huge sums of money. Preliminary investigation has also revealed that he was involved in this illegal activity for a long time and was taking advantage of the loopholes in the security system of the jail.
The accused warden was produced in the court, from where he has been sent on police remand so that he can be interrogated thoroughly.
