Jagran correspondent, Ranchi. City residents may have to face severe water shortage for the next two days. Due to the shutdown taken by the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, the water supply to the city from Rukka Plant will be completely disrupted on Friday and Saturday.

People's problems may increase further due to stoppage of water supply during cold weather. More than 8 lakh population of the city is dependent on the urban water supply system. Due to disrupted water supply, water will not be able to reach major areas like Ratu Road, District School, Bariatu, Harmu, Doranda, Namkum, Lohadih, Kantatoli, Booti Mod, Kadru, Piska Mod, Hehal, Pundag, Upper Bazaar, Daily Market, Main Road, Church Road, Thadpakhana, Tagar Hill Road and Chirondi.

Apart from this, many schools, colleges, railway stations and army camps will also be affected by this shutdown. Chandrashekhar Kumar, Executive Engineer, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, said that pipeline shifting work is to be done as part of the water supply work related to the approximately 2.34 km long four-lane flyover project from Sirmatoli Chowk to Rajendra Chowk, Mekan and Golchakkar. For this reason the department has taken a shutdown of two days.

He also informed that during the shutdown, cleaning work will be done in Rukka plant, as well as repair of the rising line will also be done, so that the water supply system can be further improved in future. The department has appealed to the people to store water in advance and use it wisely so that inconvenience can be reduced.

Pathaknama: Population and traffic burden on cities is increasing day by day.

The rural people of the entire country including Jharkhand are rapidly migrating towards cities. Due to this, most of the cities of the country including Jharkhand are being settled in a haphazard manner. Due to this, rivers, ponds, non-cultivated lands, parks, open spaces and footpaths are being encroached upon.

In such a situation, problems like housing, roads, security, health, education, employment, electricity, water and drainage are arising in the cities. Also the transport system is beginning to collapse. Now even walking in the market areas of the city has become difficult. In such a situation, going to the market with elders, women and children is no less than facing a challenge.

Quick solution to these problems is necessary. If the municipal bodies and the government together solve the basic problems of the cities, then the people of the cities will themselves make them smart. -Arvind Kumar, Medininagar, Palamu
