Digital Desk, New Delhi. The weather has once again taken a turn due to the activation of Western Disturbance in North India. Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh received intermittent rainfall and hail at some places on Tuesday, while heavy snowfall continued in hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Due to this, road, rail and air traffic has been badly affected.

All 58 flights (inbound and outbound) were canceled at Srinagar International Airport on Tuesday due to fresh snowfall in Kashmir Valley. Snow accumulation on the runway made safe flight operations impossible. Due to this, hundreds of tourists, who were supposed to return after Republic Day and weekend, have been stranded. Officials have advised passengers to contact airlines.

Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been completely closed for traffic between Qazigund and Banihal due to heavy snowfall. Long queues of vehicles have formed at various places, and thousands of passengers have been affected. Snow removal operations are ongoing, but restoration is being delayed due to inclement weather. Rail services were also affected, with some trains on the Banihal-Budgam section being canceled or partially affected.

The maximum temperature recorded in Srinagar on Tuesday was only 2.2 degrees Celsius, which was the coldest day so far this winter. Due to increase in cold, people are facing severe cold.

BRO (Border Roads Organization) rescued 60 people, including 40 soldiers, trapped in heavy snowfall on the Bhaderwah-Chhatragala road in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir in challenging conditions.

Continuous snowfall continues in the high Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand. The roofs of many houses were blown away due to the snow storm in Gamshali and Kosha villages of Neeti valley of Chamoli district. Snowfall continued for the second day in Kedarnath Dham, where the temperature dropped to minus 15 degrees Celsius.

Badrinath and other high altitude areas have also been covered with thick snow. The danger of avalanches has increased in higher areas, and the Meteorological Department has appealed for vigilance.

According to agricultural experts, this rainfall in the plains will benefit Rabi crops like wheat, gram and barley, as moisture in the soil will increase and the crops will grow better. However, snowfall in hilly areas may affect tourism, but in the long run the attraction for tourists will increase.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall may continue at some places in the next 1-2 days, after which the weather is expected to improve. Travelers are advised to check weather updates and traffic alerts.
