Jagran correspondent, Bhagalpur. Sabour block of Bhagalpur district was the coldest area of Bihar. On Saturday, the minimum temperature recorded here was 6.4 degrees and the maximum temperature was 16.8 degrees Celsius. Humidity was 95 percent. The icy westerly wind and fog blowing at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour in the district created a cold wave-like situation as the evening approached.
The bone-chilling cold forced us to light a bonfire. As evening approached, dense fog engulfed the city and rural areas. Due to this, visibility reduced, due to which the speed of vehicles on the road came to a halt and life was affected. According to Sabour Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of further drop in the temperature. At present there is no hope of relief from cold.
Problems for children, elderly and sick people
Children, elderly and already sick people suffered more due to the sudden increase in cold. People were leaving their homes only when there was important work. Bonfires were seen burning at intersections, where people kept warming their hands to protect themselves from the cold.
As the evening approaches, the effect of cold has become more acute due to increase in wind speed. There was silence in the open areas, while the crowd in the markets was relatively less. Bike riders and pedestrians had to face the most problems. Traveling long distances became difficult. The effect of fog is likely to be greater in the morning and late night.
Sunshine will give some relief, but cold will remain
According to meteorologists, sunshine during the day may provide relief for some time, but due to strong wind and fog, the effect of cold will remain. People have been advised to remain alert, wear warm clothes and avoid going out unnecessarily.
Overall, Bhagalpur is stuck in the triangle of cold, fog and strong westerly these days. Where the flame of bonfire and light rays of sunlight are the only hope of relief at present.
