RC Bhargava has been the chairman of Maruti.
New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki cars have been the pride of people on the roads of India for the last 4 decades. In the 80s, the foundation of Maruti Suzuki as a company was laid in collaboration with the Japanese company Suzuki, and the work of making this name a brand was done by 'RC Bhargava', who you can also call Maruti Man or the sculptor of Maruti Suzuki. The surprising thing is that at that time RC Bhargava was not an expert in the auto sector but an IAS officer.
The country's indigenous automobile manufacturer, Maruti, came into existence in the early 1980s. Meanwhile, the Government of India gave the responsibility of giving big recognition to this company to IAS officer RC Bhargava (RC Bhargava Story), from here the story of Maruti and RC Bhargava started.
Stayed in IAS for 25 years
RC Bhargava was an Indian Administrative Service officer of 1956 batch. RC Bhargava joined Maruti Udyog Limited in 1981 after spending 25 years in administrative services. While at the company, through his decisions, he took Maruti Udyog Limited to great heights and made it the favorite Indian car brand.
Maruti Suzuki, under the leadership of RC Bhargava, has dominated the Indian automobile market since 1983. Earlier the company was a joint venture between the Government of India and Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), but after the government sold its stake in 2003, it became a subsidiary of Suzuki.
RC Bhargava rose to the position of Chairman and CEO of Maruti in just a decade. RC Bhargava retired from the company in December 1997 after serving Maruti Suzuki for 26 years. However, even after this he was appointed non-executive chairman of the company.

RC Bhargava joined Maruti in 1981 on 1 year deputation from administrative services. After the end of the deputation, the then government did not extend the period and he was again ordered to return to the Administrative Services.
Left IAS job, chose Maruti
This was the time when Maruti Suzuki was slowly establishing its foothold in India. At such a time, RC Bhargava had only two options, first to leave the IAS job and second to leave Maruti. But with the desire to take Maruti further, he resigned from the post of IAS officer. It is also said that if he had returned to administrative services, he could have been made Cabinet Secretary, which is the highest administrative officer in India.
