Jagran News Network, New Delhi. With the end of his tenure as Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, speculation has intensified in political circles and internet media regarding the next role of Mohammad Yunus. There are speculations that he may continue to hold some constitutional post in the new system, although nothing has been officially decided in this regard.
Tariq Rehman's international affairs advisor Humayun Kabir said while talking to the media that till now the role of any person including Yunus has not been decided. According to him, Rehman believes in inclusive governance and wants to consult the best minds of the country, but there has been no formal discussion about any post.
Yunus can prove useful for the post of President
Meanwhile, columnist David Bergman, who writes on Bangladesh, suggested on the internet media that Yunus could prove useful for the presidency due to his strong image at the international level. However, both Rehman's team and Yunus' office have denied any such talks.
No desire to return to politics
Yunus' press secretary Shafiqul Alam clarified that Yunus has no desire to return to politics. According to him, Yunus wants to focus on social business, work with youth and his “three zeros” vision—poverty, unemployment and zero carbon emissions.
At present, Yunus himself has not made any public statement regarding his future. Political analysts believe that his next plan will become clear only after the transfer of power, while the possibility of using his international experience at the diplomatic level for the new government is also under discussion.
