More than 90 species of birds were recorded in the bird census program conducted in Yamuna Biodiversity Park. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, outer Delhi. Yamuna Biodiversity Park is becoming a favorite destination for both native and migratory birds. During the bird census program held on Sunday, the presence of more than 90 species of birds was recorded here. The special thing is that about 30 of these species are of migratory birds which come to Delhi from abroad during the winter season.
The bird census program was conducted simultaneously in all the seven biodiversity parks managed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Between 8 and 10 am on Sunday, teams of experts, students and bird lovers counted birds in all seven parks and recorded their species.
Yamuna Biodiversity Park recorded the highest number of bird species, more than 90 compared to 88 last year. According to experts, DDA's biodiversity parks spread from the banks of river Yamuna to the Aravalli hills provide a variety of habitats.
This is the reason why many species of birds that thrive in different environmental conditions are found here. The bird census program recorded the presence of about 30 migratory bird species that come from Europe, Siberia, Central Asia and China. Due to the harsh cold in these countries, these birds migrate to Delhi and other parts of India during the winter months. According to experts, the major migratory bird species include Red-crested Pochard, Ferruginous Pochard, Gargany and Common Finch.
Bird population is increasing rapidly in Kalindi Park
The number of birds is also continuously increasing in Kalindi Biodiversity Park, where this time 81 species of birds were recorded. Apart from this, presence of 61 species of birds was recorded in Tughlakabad Park, 25 in Neela Hauz, 52 in Kamla Nehru Ridge, 36 in Tilpath Valley and 49 species in Aravalli Biodiversity Park.
Delhi Development Authority's Biodiversity Parks have now developed into climate-friendly blue-green infrastructure, providing a large number of ecological goods and services to urban centers like Delhi. A positive trend in species diversity has been observed in DDA Biodiversity Parks. This year, the winter season arrived late, and the prolonged monsoon led to the formation of many temporary water bodies in Rajasthan. - Dr. Faiyaz Khudasar, Senior Scientist, Biodiversity Park
