People have made permanent encroachments along the meter gauge railway line of the North Eastern Railway, which has been lying unused for years between Izzatnagar station and Shahdana. On Tuesday, the railway team had taken action to remove the encroachments of the building owners on both sides for about five hundred meters.
On Wednesday, pillars were made on the old track and barricaded on both sides. Now railway officials have again sought cooperation from the administration for further action. This 2.65 km long railway line between Izzatnagar station and Shahdana has been lying unused for almost 35 years. Most of it falls in Baradari and Premnagar police station area.
Taking advantage of the track not being used for a long time, the nearby building owners constructed 10 to 15 feet concrete on the railway land. At some places boundary walls were erected, at other places by making gates, platforms and stairs the railway land started being used as private property.
A survey conducted by the Railways revealed that parts of the houses of about 200 building owners are built on Railway land. According to officials, during the survey, about 10 thousand square meters of land was found to be encroached upon. Bulldozers were used on Tuesday to remove them. In this action which lasted for about seven hours, the process of removing encroachment from Premnagar crossing till the temple was completed at a fast pace.
On Wednesday, the railway team barricaded about five hundred meters of old track from Shahdana towards Izzatnagar station, so that it could not be captured again. Railway officials say that permission for cooperation was received from the administration only for one day. Cooperation has again been sought to carry forward the action of removing encroachment.
