Jagran correspondent, Haridwar. To keep Dharmanagari clean and to protect Ganga and environment, 206 km sewerage line will be laid by the year 2028. After completion of the project, about 15 thousand domestic sewer connections will be provided. This will directly benefit 3.50 lakh people.
Meenakshi Mittal, project manager of Drinking Water Corporation (Ganga), said that sewer lines are being laid in Haridwar and its satellite areas under the Ganga Rejuvenation program funded by KfW German Development Bank. Out of total 206 km, about 150 km sewer line work is being done in two packages.
In Package-1, 70 km work is going on from Haripur Kalan, Bhupatwala, Bhimgowda, Harki Pauri to Railway Station, Brahmpuri, Old Industrial Area etc. and in Package-2, 80 km work is going on in Kankhal, Dwarka Vihar, Raja Garden, Ganpati Dham, Jagjitpur etc. The remaining 56 km sewer line work is in the tender process.
The project is proposed to be completed by the year 2028. This project will ensure safe, systematic and sustainable waste water management. This will contribute to significant improvement in public health, better standard of living, increase in environmental protection and revitalization of river Ganga. It will also help in reducing ground water pollution and improving the overall cleanliness of the surrounding areas. So far, out of 75 km, 40 km of sewer line has been laid under Package-1 and 35 km under Package-2.
Under Package-1, 21 km road reconstruction has been done and under Package-2, 10 km road reconstruction has been done. The works of both these packages are proposed to be completed by June 2026. The projector manager said that there is a lot of traffic of devotees and vehicles in the area from Harki Paidi to the railway station throughout the day. Keeping in mind the convenience of devotees and traffic, the work of laying sewer lines is being done at night instead of during the day. Keeping in mind that the public does not face any problem, the work is being done under the direction of DM.
