21 trained horses joined the fleet of Mumbai Police (file photo- Jagran)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Mumbai Police has strengthened its cavalry squad by inducting 21 new trained horses. These horses, brought from states like Rajasthan, Haryana and Kerala, are kept in the state-of-the-art stables of Marol Police Camp.
These horses are fully trained in jumping, riding, running and other operational activities. Currently, four more stables are being built at the Marol Police Camp, and Mumbai Police is expected to add more horses soon.
These horses will be deployed for patrolling at Juhu Beach, Aksa Beach, Madh Beach, Uttan Beach, Gorai Beach and Girgaum Chowpatty.
Karishma, Ranveer, Baji, Meghdoot, Arjun, Samrat, Abhimanyu, Subarnarekha, Shivalik, Vijayjyoti, Krishna, Padmavati, Randheera, Manju, Veer, Dash, Bijli, Chetak, Toofan, Badal and Hirakani. All the horses are between two and five years old.
Speaking to Mid-Day, PSI Sagar Shinde, in-charge of the stable, said, "We have a total of 36 stables, along with rest rooms, guest rooms, veterinary doctor on duty, swimming pool for horses and medicine facilities in the stable. The entire stable is built on 2.96 acres of land. We have over 50 trained staff who are engaged in training and taking care of the horses."
All horses have been trained
PSI Shinde further said, "These horses will be deployed for patrolling the beaches of Mumbai and will also be used in forest areas where vehicles cannot reach. The police horses will also take part in parades, Foundation Day celebrations and sports events. All the horses have been given six months of training and are well trained. They have also been fully vaccinated."
Ambulance facility for horses
The center has four ambulances available for medical emergencies, as well as a veterinary doctor. In case of emergency, these carts are used to take horses to the hospital. Regular health check-up
Speaking to mid-day, Hanumanth Shingate, nursing assistant, Mumbai Police, said, "We conduct regular health check-ups and vaccinations of the horses in this stable. Veterinarians are available 24x7 for treatment."
Construction of stables starts in 2023
This stable will be built in 2023 by Police Commissioner and Joint CP Satyanarayan Choudhary (Law and Order) and Joint CP S. It was built with proper planning under the guidance of Jayakumar (Administration). DCP Sunil Lokhande and PSI Sagar Shinde are currently handling the entire stable along with the trainers and staff.
