Illegal settlement under high voltage line in Vijay Nagar.
Rajeev Pandit, Baraut (Baghpat). Vijay Nagar-2 Colony is situated under 132 KV high voltage power lines in the city. People moved electrical towers inside their homes. The construction of new houses is continuing. The officials of the power transmission section are fulfilling their duties by correspondence, but the entire system is turning a blind eye to this. The question is that if any accident happens to the people living under the 1 lakh 32 thousand volt line, who will take the responsibility?
In the year 1973, a power transmission section was built on Sarai Bypass, from where 132 KV high voltage lines are going. That is, 53 years ago, there was no colony in existence not only in the vicinity of the block, but in seven-eight years, a colony was formed adjacent to the block, which was named Vijay Nagar-2.
Now several hundred houses have been built in this colony, most of which are coming under the high voltage line. Many people have taken power towers into their homes and many have taken the angle of the towers between the walls. People are living freely under high voltage lines. Children also study sitting below this line.
People unaware of dangers, careless officials
People living under high voltage power lines are unaware of the dangers of electrocution etc. There is a danger to people's lives due to sparking in power lines. Power lines may break and fall on houses. Houses may get electrocuted during the rainy season. On the other hand, despite having information about this, officials of police-administration and other departments remain unaware.
The rules regarding building construction are that there is a ban on construction work within 26 meters of 400 KV tower and power line, 17 meters between 200 KV tower and power line and 13 meters between 132 KV tower and power line. That is, construction should be done only at a distance of prescribed meter between the tower and the power line, but the rules are being violated here.
Construction cannot take place below the electrical tower, if illegal construction is detected, notices are issued to the concerned persons. Officials of the concerned departments are also informed from time to time. More than 50 people living in Vijay Nagar Colony were issued a notice and informed about its dangers. - Mohit Rao, Executive Engineer Power Transmission Division Baraut.
