Ashwani Tripathi, Jagran, Dehradun. To strengthen the infrastructure of urban areas of Uttarakhand, a new network of drinking water, sewerage and sewage treatment facilities has been prepared. Uttarakhand Urban Area Development Agency (UUSDA) is implementing urban development projects worth Rs 964 crore with the help of Asian Development Bank.
With this, 287 km of new sewerage network has been created in cities like Dehradun and Nainital and connections have been given to 19 thousand houses, while drinking water network and high capacity sewage treatment plants have also been developed. New drinking water line laid in 134.19 km. Under the drinking water project in Banjarawala and Mothrowala areas of Dehradun, the target of laying 134.19 km drinking water network has been achieved. With this, 8010 drinking water meters have been installed against 8700. The meter will help in monitoring drinking water as well as controlling wastage. 14 thousand domestic connections from Banjarawala to Harrawala, 31.28 km sewerage network and 3505 domestic sewerage connections have been completed in Yamuna Colony and THDC Dehradun areas of Dehradun. Apart from this, 232.61 km sewerage network has been laid in Banjarawala, Mothrowala, Ring Road, Natthanpur, Mohkampur, Mianwala and Harrawala areas, 14,175 domestic connections have been installed against 15,247. Whereas in Nawada, after the contract, sewerage work has been started and 23 km network and 1519 domestic connections have been given. The first two-storey sewage treatment plant is being built.
Construction work of sewage treatment plants of 11 MLD capacity in Daudwala and 18 MLD capacity in Nakraunda is going on in Dehradun. Dehradun's first two-storey sewage treatment plant (STP) is being developed at Daudwala. Along with this, the construction work of 17.5 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant is in progress in Nainital, which will ensure environmental protection and cleanliness of water sources. A two-storey office will be built below the tank. Abhishek Ruhela, project director of Uttarakhand Urban Area Development Agency, said that all the urban development projects are being conducted on the instructions of the government. Two automatic pumping units will be set up in Nawada-Badripur area. With this, 10 kilometers downstream areas will get the benefit of sewer facility. A two-storey office is being set up in Banjarawala using the land below the 1900 kiloliter capacity tank, from where the Banjarawala drinking water project will be monitored.
