Nitin Kalia, Amritsar. A sudden fire broke out in a mattress warehouse in Jawahar Nagar street number six. The fire was so intense that within no time the entire warehouse caught fire. Goods worth nearly lakhs kept inside the warehouse were burnt to ashes.
Fire brigade personnel who arrived on information brought the fire under control after two hours of tireless efforts. According to the information, Sunny, a resident of Ghannupur Kale, told that about a year ago, he had built a mattress warehouse by renting a house in Jawahar Nagar street no.
He told that he used to work in the warehouse every day from 9 am to 10 pm. On Tuesday evening, he had to go somewhere early for some important work, so he closed the warehouse around 7.30 and went home. After some time, someone called him and informed him that his warehouse was on fire. By the time he reached the warehouse, his warehouse was engulfed in flames.
He immediately informed the fire department. By the time the fire brigade personnel reached the spot, the fire took a huge form. During this time a large crowd of people gathered around the shop. There was an atmosphere of chaos regarding this incident.
The loss of property in the fire is estimated to be more than Rs 5 lakh. Short circuit is being said to be the cause of the fire in the mattress warehouse. People controlled the fire with the help of water and cylinders. The mattresses lying in the warehouse were burnt due to water. The fire was brought under control after nearly two hours of tireless efforts by the fire brigade personnel, but by then all the goods had been burnt.
