PM Modi will inaugurate 'Seva Teerth' and Dutta Bhawan.
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new building of the Prime Minister's Office 'Seva Teerth' and Dutva Bhavan 1 and 2 on Friday evening on 13 February.
But before that, PM Modi will chair a special meeting of the Union Cabinet in the South Block on the same day, which will be the last meeting before the shift of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in the British-era Secretariat building to the new complex 'Seva Tirtha'. This will not only be the end of the British influence on the Indian executive after nearly 125 years but will also be a new step in the uninterrupted functioning of independent modern India.
Official sources have confirmed that this will be the last cabinet meeting in the PMO, which was designed by British architect Herbert Baker in the early 1900s to meet the requirements of the British Raj.
After this cabinet meeting scheduled at 4 pm on Friday, the PMO will be transferred to 'Seva Teerth'. The move will mark the end of an era, as all government departments will vacate the North and South Blocks, which have been the center of power since 1921.
The government is planning to convert these iconic buildings into 'Yuge Yugen Bharat National Museum', which will be a world class museum showcasing India's civilizational journey. The transfer is part of the government's broader initiative to decolonize India's administrative architecture and governance.
North and South Block have been the centers of power in the country for 125 years (from the British era till now). Earlier, the Home Ministry had shifted from Lutyens' North Block complex in Raisina Hills, Delhi.
The PMO said that this inauguration of Seva Teerth, Dutva Bhawan I and II is a transformational milestone in India's administrative governance structure and reflects the Prime Minister's commitment to create a modern, efficient, accessible and citizen-centric governance ecosystem. For decades, key government offices and ministries were functioning from dispersed and aging infrastructure at various locations in the Central Vista area (formerly Lutyens Zone).
The Prime Minister's Office, National Security Council Secretariat and Cabinet Secretariat are located at one place in Seva Teerth. Duties Buildings One and Two house the offices of law, defence, finance, health, agriculture and many other major ministries. Both building complexes have digitally integrated offices, structured public interface areas and centralized reception facilities.
These complexes incorporate renewable energy systems, water conservation measures, waste management solutions as per 4-star GRIHA standards. Smart access control systems, surveillance networks and advanced emergency infrastructure ensure a safe and accessible environment.
