State Bureau, New Delhi. From Thursday, vehicles without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will not be able to fill fuel at petrol pumps in Delhi. This rule applies to all vehicles, whether they run on petrol, diesel or CNG. This rule has been implemented for all vehicles.
At the same time, non-BS-VI vehicles registered outside Delhi will also not get entry into the city. 126 checkpoints and 580 policemen will be deployed along the border, along with 37 patrolling vans. Apart from this, enforcement teams of the Transport Department will be present at petrol pumps and border checkpoints to ensure proper compliance of the rules.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also held a review meeting with the Petrol Pump Dealers Association and senior traffic police officials on Wednesday. He gave clear instructions that this system will be implemented at petrol pumps with the help of ANPR cameras, voice alerts and police.
He said, "Pollution control is not just the responsibility of the government, it is a shared responsibility of all of us. Providing fuel without PUC certificate is prohibited, and all dealers should cooperate in ensuring compliance."
Technological initiatives to reduce traffic and pollution
Delhi government is also considering the possibility of partnership with Google Maps to improve traffic management. The minister held a high-level meeting with Google Maps officials to discuss data integration with traffic signals and identification of congested areas. Sirsa said the government aims to identify at least 100 new traffic hotspots and implement solutions there. A detailed action plan will be prepared and reviewed in the next meeting.
Big action on dust and garbage pollution
PWD has also started a permanent system to monitor potholes, where a third-party agency will conduct the survey and ensure repairs within 72 hours. An independent agency will also collect pothole data throughout the year and audit the on-ground implementation of pollution control measures.
