Jagran correspondent, Agra. Agra is in the grip of cold wave due to snowfall in the mountains. There was a blanket of dense fog in the city on Friday morning. The fog kept dripping like water. In Mathura, it rained in many areas in the morning and hail fell in Mant.

It started raining amidst fog in Mathura on Friday morning. After the hailstorm, people started feeling melting. In Agra too, due to the drop in minimum temperature, people remained hiding under quilts for a long time. After 10 am the fog cleared a bit and a glimpse of the sun started appearing. Sunshine may provide slight relief in the afternoon but melting will still continue.

The Meteorological Department has predicted fog on Saturday and a drop in the minimum temperature, which may increase the cold. There was dense fog in the city even on Thursday morning. Visibility was recorded at 30 meters at the center located at Taj Mahal and 50 meters at the Air Force station. Due to visibility being affected due to fog, the speed of vehicles was slowed down and people also got drenched due to the fog dripping like water in the morning.

Due to lack of sunlight and cold wave, the melting was high, due to which the city residents remained shivering. The sun definitely came out after 1 pm, but due to the low maximum temperature it remained ineffective. The melting increased further due to drop in temperature after evening. The maximum temperature was 14.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 7.8 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature was 6.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 1.1 degrees Celsius below normal. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature was 14.3 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 9.1 degrees Celsius. Agra stood at 12th place among the cold cities of the state on Thursday. Sonbhadra was the coldest with a temperature of four degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist Mohd. Danish said that Thursday was a cold day due to very dense fog. This situation has happened due to cold winds blowing after snowfall in the mountains, lack of sunlight or late sunrise. Due to the influence of active Western Disturbance over North Punjab, the effect of fog will reduce by January 11. There is a possibility of short-term relief from cold as the temperature increases.
