Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal.

Jagran correspondent, Ludhiana. Shiromani Akali Dal has accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of allegedly implementing a “back door” land grab scheme in areas adjacent to Ludhiana. Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal says that earlier when the government had taken the decision to acquire 25 thousand acres of land in 30 villages adjacent to Ludhiana, even then the Akali Dal had strongly protested.

Now efforts are being made to implement the same scheme in a new form. Akali Dal has strongly condemned the decision of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to increase the municipal limits to include 110 more villages.

Sukhbir Badal on internet media says that the Aam Aadmi Party government is taking this step at a time when it has failed to properly handle development works and basic facilities within the existing municipal corporation limits. Despite this, expanding the city limits and including rural areas in the corporation is like putting unnecessary burden on the public.

people will suffer financial loss

According to Akali Dal, the people of the concerned villages will have to suffer huge economic losses due to this decision. After coming within the Municipal Corporation limits, the villagers will have to pay many new taxes like house tax, water and sewerage charges. Besides this, there is also a danger of this step taking away the ownership of common village lands from the hands of Panchayats.

Intention to capture common land of 110 villages

Sukhbir Badal alleges that Aam Aadmi Party intends to capture the common lands of these 110 villages, the value of which is said to be hundreds of crores of rupees. Akali Dal claims that these lands will later be handed over to people close to the party, builders and industrial houses bypassing the rules.

Akali Dal will protest

Akali Dal made it clear that just as it had opposed the land pooling scheme earlier, this scheme too will not be allowed to succeed at any cost. Party leaders said that they will oppose this decision with all their strength and this step, which is being said to be against the interests of Punjabis, will be stopped at any cost.
