Jagran correspondent, Angul. A very shameful and heart-wrenching incident that took place in the name of education in Kendrapara district of Odisha has shaken the entire state. An innocent 12-year-old class seven student of a private English medium school in Rajkanika block has been accused of gang sexual exploitation for the last two months. Four teachers and a peon of the school have been found involved in this heinous crime. Police have arrested all five.
Female teacher also included among the accused
Pattamundai SDPO Sukant Kumar Patra said that the arrested accused include Vishwaranjan Sahu, Rashmikant Biswal, Chandan Prushti (all teachers), Minati Bai (female teacher) and Rashmi Rana (peon). The female teacher is accused of cooperation in crime and concealing the crime.
Brutality used to happen in the school premises itself
Police investigation has revealed that three teachers and a peon repeatedly sexually assaulted this minor girl inside the school. Not only this, but he and his younger brother were forced not to tell anything to anyone by giving them death threats. The victim was living in fear and was maintaining silence.
Secret revealed after father's return
The incident came to light when the victim's father recently returned home after working as a laborer outside the state. The daughter tearfully narrated the entire incident to her father. The father immediately informed the state child helpline. After this the information was sent to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Under the leadership of CWC Chairperson Swagatika Parida, the team reached the victim's house and investigated and understood the depth of the matter.
FIR lodged in the police station on Saturday
On the instructions of CWC, the victim's father lodged a formal complaint at Rajkanika police station on Saturday. Police registered a case under serious sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and POCSO Act. Rajkanika police station IIC Sanjay Kumar Mallik confirmed that all the five accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
Victim's statement and further action
The statement of the victim will be recorded before the magistrate under section 180 of BNSS. The girl and the accused will be produced before the ADSG-cum-Special POCSO Court. Besides, the girl will also be produced before the Child Welfare Committee for protection, support and psychological help.
This case is not only exposing the education system, but is also raising big questions regarding the safety of children in schools. Police investigation is ongoing and more revelations are expected in the case.
