Amit Kashyap appointed member of HPGST Appellate Tribunal

Jagran correspondent, Shimla. The Government of India has appointed Amit Kashyap as a member of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Appellate Tribunal based at Himachal Pradesh State Bench, Shimla. This appointment has been made for a period of four years. Appointment orders are issued by the Government of India after approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Earlier the interview was conducted by the selection committee, which was headed by the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Taxpayers hope for relief

Under the GST Act, a National GST Appellate Tribunal at New Delhi and its State Benches in all the States have been constituted at the national level across the country. The objective of these tribunals is to ensure speedy settlement of tax disputes and increase transparency in tax administration. The formation of the State Bench in Shimla is expected to provide major relief to the taxpayers of Himachal Pradesh.

Administrative experience of Amit Kashyap?

Amit Kashyap has been a senior administrative officer, who retired from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in December 2023. In his long administrative career, he held many important responsibilities in the state.

He has worked on important positions like Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Director Industries, Director Tourism, Managing Director Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC), Labor Commissioner, Managing Director Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) and Managing Director of State Cooperative Bank.

Amit Kashyap has also served in the army.

Before joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), he also served the country as a commissioned officer in the Indian Army. He has always been known for his hard work, efficiency, honesty and commitment towards the upliftment of the poor and needy class. His leadership and effective administrative work as Deputy Commissioner Shimla, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, was universally appreciated.

His new responsibility will prove helpful in further strengthening the equitable and transparent tax system in the state.
