State Bureau, New Delhi. After the rising demand for the last three years, the Public Works Department (PWD) will now repair the old flyover in Seelampur. Under this, expansion joints will be changed and various important works will be done. The government has approved Rs 17 crore for this.

Due to damage to the expansion joint on this flyover, there is a safety risk especially for two-wheelers. This flyover was built about 19 years ago to make the traffic going from Shastri Park towards Apsara Border signal free.

Single flyover was built in 2006

A single flyover was built for the first time in 2006 at T-Point Lalbatti in Seelampur. At that time the traffic pressure was not so much here. The government had built a three-lane single flyover on GT Road from Shastri Park towards Apsara Border. It has now been 19 years since it was made.

There has been talk of repairing it for the last three years. PWD had also sent a proposal for repairing this flyover to the then AAP government about three years ago, in which the need to replace the expansion joint was emphasized.

Work stuck due to not getting funds on time

Actually, the age of extension join is considered to be around 12 to 15 years which is now completely damaged. But this work could not be started due to lack of funds during the previous government. Now work on this is going to start. Delhi government has approved Rs 17,85,59,133 crore for this work.

Under this, the broken surface of the road i.e. honeycomb concrete will be repaired, expansion joints will be re-established as well as the elastic pads and bearings of the flyover will be replaced. These are installed to reduce the pressure on the flyover.

I pass through this flyover on Naveen Shahdara every day from Tisahjari Court to my home. The condition of this flyover has been very bad for the last several years. I have complained about this to the Public Works Department many times. Some of its expansion joints are so bad that passing over them causes a strong shock and there is a possibility of a speeding two-wheeler having an accident.
