Anoop Kumar Singh, New Delhi. Antibiotics Awareness: The awareness campaign being run by Dainik Jagran in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association against the serious invisible threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) has emerged as an important initiative in terms of public health.

The objective of the campaign is to alert the general public about the dangers arising from uncontrolled and wrong use of antibiotics. The World Health Organization has already declared AMR as one of the major threats to global health. In the second phase of its seven-day news campaign regarding this, Dainik Jagran on Tuesday organized various activities for public awareness simultaneously in every district of 12 states.

Under this, public awareness marches, symposiums, street plays, expert discussions and medical consultation sessions were organized in residential colonies, schools.

Do not take antibiotics without need

Their aim was to make the general public understand that by taking antibiotics unnecessarily, in the wrong way and in incomplete courses, the bacteria within the body become resistant to the medicines, due to which the medicines do not affect the bacteria, due to which the treatment can fail and even common infections can become fatal.

Many RWAs in Delhi NCR have appreciated the campaign on AMR. In this context, an awareness rally was taken out by East RWA Joint. A rally was also taken out in Red Quarter. Awareness rally was taken out in Krishna Nagar.

By organizing special sessions in schools, students were given expert information about the danger of AMR. A seminar on antibiotic awareness was organized at the Government Dr. BR Ambedkar Medical College in Palwal.

A program was organized in Faridabad in collaboration with RWA 3-E Block, in which former IMA President Dr. Suresh Arora and Dr. Sandeep Malhotra advised people on judicious use of antibiotics.

Workshops will be held in colleges, residential societies, social organizations, women's clubs and youth clubs in Uttarakhand.

Government and private sector doctors gave expert information about its danger. ‘Hello Jagran’ program was organized and information was given about the ill effects of excessive use of antibiotics through banners and posters.

The seriousness of AMR was explained through a case study in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. An awareness program was organized in the community hall of Rasik Tower Apartment.

Dr. Amit Varshney, Director of Vrinda Multispeciality Hospital, explained through a case study how wrong antibiotic use promotes AMR. Attendees including Apartment Director Rajesh Mittal appreciated this initiative of Dainik Jagran.

In the workshop organized in Mohanganj, Hathras, senior surgeon and Joint Secretary of IMA, Dr. Bharat Yadav described AMR as a global health crisis.

He clearly said that taking antibiotics without doctor's advice can lead to serious consequences in future. Businessmen, students and common citizens participated in the program.

The second phase of this campaign of Dainik Jagran in Punjab reached nursing colleges and hospitals. A seminar was held on the threat of AMR at the Indian Medical Institute of Nursing in Jalandhar.

In a seminar organized at Prabhat College, Amritsar, Dr. Sandeep Aggarwal of Government Medical College explained the ill effects of uncontrolled consumption of antibiotics.

Awareness programs were also organized at Arora Neuro and Multi Specialty Hospital and Shri Guru Ramdas Charitable Hospital, Ludhiana. Experts warned that if caution is not taken now, even common infections may become difficult to treat in the future.

Told that this campaign is a strong step towards responsible drug use which is not only providing information but is also making a strong effort towards developing a culture of responsible drug use in the society.
