PTI, New Delhi. Data of crores of people around the world has been leaked. Login credentials, including users' names and passwords, of more than 149 million accounts of internet companies like Gmail, Instagram, Facebook and Netflix have reportedly been leaked, ExpressVPN reports.
The report published by cyber security researcher Jeremiah Fowler claims that in the publicly exposed data, information of 4.8 crore accounts of Gmail, 40 lakh of Yahoo, 1.7 crore of Facebook, 65 lakh of Instagram, 34 lakh of Netflix and 15 lakh of Outlook has been leaked.
The report said that this publicly available database was not password protected or encrypted. It contained a total of 14.94 crore unique logins and passwords, the total size of which is 96 GB. After examining the samples, thousands of such files were found which contained emails, usernames, passwords and login URL links of related accounts.
Email queries sent to key companies named in the report did not immediately elicit a response. Fowler said the database was publicly accessible, allowing anyone searching it to potentially have access to the identities of millions of individuals.
Financial services accounts, crypto wallet or trading accounts, banking and credit card logins were also found in the limited sample of records reviewed by the cybersecurity researcher. A serious concern raised by the cyber researcher was that the leaked data also included credentials related to .gov domains of many countries of the world.
